Becoming a chiropractor wasn't something Shaun Dorothy thought about while attending high school in Madison or college at Dakota State University.

In fact, when he was first introduced to a program at Northwest Health and Science University in Bloomington, Minn., Dorothy didn't really know what it was, but he's glad he made the choice.

"I'm very happy with my decision," he said. "I like the fact that I get to help people every day."

Dorothy earned a bachelor's degree in exercise science from DSU prior to enrolling at Northwest. He completed the chiropractic program there in November and has been licensed and available for service since Jan. 5.

But, Dorothy's business is unlike other chiropractors in two ways: he doesn't have an office, and he makes house calls.

"I offer house calls and business calls for convenience," Dorothy said. "I can deliver the same level of care."

The only service Dorothy can't provide is an X-ray, he said, but he can refer those services to a clinic. Such services are needed in approximately one of every 10 patients, he said.
