PUTNAM COUNTY - Nearly 100 Doctors of Chiropractic in Ohio participated in an unprecedented two-day, professional health service giveback, appropriately named, Chiropractic Cares, benefiting four charitable community causes including The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, The Stephanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research, The Butch Reynolds Care for Kids Foundation and the WellCare Foundation's Rob Sherman Scholarship Fund.

Successfully launched just a little more than 30 days ago and coinciding with October's National Spinal Health and Breast Cancer Awareness month, chiropractic offices, including one run by Ottawa's Darla Lammers, raised $40,000 in $20 incremental donations - all in two days.

$10,000 checks were presented to all four charity recipients by the OSCA at their most recent statewide convention held this past October at the Hilton Columbus at Easton, where keynote speaker, Craig Krenzel (former OSU quarterback, Academic All-American and Co-MVP of the legendary 2002 National Championship team) kicked-off the weekend's activities.

"We were quite pleased with our doctors, their patients, and the general public's receptiveness to our unique Chiropractic Cares initiative - especially as a first year effort," stated Dr. Gary Estadt, President of the Ohio State Chiropractic Association (OSCA).

As part of the chiropractic, community-centric fundraising effort, doctors throughout the state offered their expert services free of charge with a minimum, per patient charitable donation of just $20 to the WellCareFoundation, the OSCA's non-profit organization, which directly supports other non-profit entities and community charitable causes throughout the state.

"The entire effort was amazing," said Woody Woodward, Executive Director of the OSCA, "not just in raising $40,000 for a wonderful group of charities, but in the fact that our doctors came together and 2,000 of their patients and patients' friends and family found it in their hearts to support this chiropractic, community-cause by simply visiting an Ohio chiropractic office on one of those two days."

Chiropractic Cares two days of giving back took place on Tuesday, Sept. 30 and again on Thursday, Oct. 1, the first date focused on current chiropractic patient visits throughout the state, while the second designated day reached out to new patients.
