The second of two brothers serving prison time for their roles in a $4.8 million money-laundering and health-care fraud scheme has been sentenced in U.S. District Court in Toledo after being found guilty of perjury.
Paul Neumann of Temperance pleaded guilty to perjury and was sentenced Tuesday to 10 months in prison. Judge Jack Zouhary ordered the sentence run consecutive to the 37-month sentence imposed in March.
Neumann and his brother, Timothy of Toledo, were co-owners of the former MedBackchiropractic clinics in Toledo and other cities in northwest Ohio. The men pleaded guilty in September, 2005, to one count each of conspiring to commit health-care fraud and conspiring to commit money-laundering.
The convictions stemmed from information that the men employed medical doctors at their clinics in order to submit false claims to public and private health-care insurers.
The brothers filed motions to withdraw their pleas after a third defendant, lawyer James Altiere III, was found not guilty by a federal jury in March, 2006.
