According to Utah chiropractor Dan LaFontaine, a Car Crash Pain doctor, there are many things people don’t know when seeking proper medical attention after a car accident. LaFontaine explained five important facts as summer vacations near:

1.) Even a minor car accident can cause long-term health issues in your back, neck and muscle tissues

Don't think stiffness and soreness after an accident will just eventually go away. There may be a risk of developing more serious medical issues in the future, LaFontaine said.

"Individuals involved in automobile accidents often have very unique injuries," he said. "If you are injured in a car accident, get medical attention as soon as possible. Many injury symptoms will not show up for weeks or even months after the accident. If you delay treatment, there is also the possibility your care might not be covered."

2.) Victims may find a doctor of their choice to get the medical attention they need

"Make sure you properly treat all of your injuries by choosing a doctor who is knowledgeable in both the symptoms and the best kinds of treatments," LaFontaine said. "Most doctors who specialize in patients involved with an automobile accident will offer a free consultation prior to any treatment."

3.) Recovering from injuries sustained in an automobile accident might require long-term medical care

A couple of exams in the emergency room and a prescription for pain medication is often not adequate treatment.
