Hey you! The one hunched over your laptop. Get up! Move around!

A number of things can make our backs ache. Things like injuries, arthritis and even genetics can give you back problems. What’s not so obvious is what we do in our daily lives that can give us a pain in the neck…literally.

In high-stress, fast-paced areas like Fairfield County, many people experience neck, upper and lower back pain. While some need more traditional medical approaches, others turn to Doctors of Chiropractic, or Chiropractors, to deal with their aches and pains.

Recently condemned in the media for causing strokes, chiropractic medicine has been vindicated by leading neurologists. Dr. Scott Haldeman, clinical professor of neurology at the University of California, says the best estimates available put the risk at a little more than 1 stroke per 100,000 chiropractic patients. Even that estimate, he says, doesn't account for people whose stroke was caused by a trauma that happened before seeing the chiropractor.

Chiropractic medicine relies on the body's natural ability to heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery. Chiropractic care focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system and the effects of these conditions on general health.
