A contingent of 40 students and faculty from Northwestern Health Sciences University traveled to Washington D.C. to promote natural healthcare.
Northwestern’s Student American Chiropractic Association (SACA) met with Minnesota representatives and senators at the National Chiropractic Legislative Conference (NCLC) Feb. 12-16. Students spent their time in preliminary meetings, attending receptions, meeting with politicians and visiting historical attractions.
Faculty that made the trip were Renee DeVries, DC, dean of the College of Chiropractic at Northwestern; Mark Zeigler, DC, president of Northwestern; and Michele Maiers, DC, SACA advisor and associate dean of Research and Knowledge Transfer at the Wolfe-Harris Center for Clinical Studies.
SACA members are seeing changes after attending NCLC. Congressman Bruce Braley, Iowa representative recently introduced to Congress the Access to Frontline Health Care Act of 2011 bill. The bill creates a student loan repayment program that allows chiropractors to practice for two years in an underserved area and, in exchange, the chiropractor receives student loan repayment.
