Dr Steven J. Fleishman's letter [Oct. 14, "Unproven Prenatal Technique"], regarding the journalistic and medical appropriateness of prenatal chiropractic care, deserves a response. As a practicing chiropractor, I collaborate with medical physicians virtually on a daily basis. I work in a multidisciplinary practice. My current practice has treated more than 30 medical physicians, including several during their pregnancy. My three children were born in a hospital under the care of a medical physician.
I do not believe the article Dr. Fleishman referenced implied that chiropractic techniques should be applied without medical oversight. My personal belief is that chiropractic care can be a valuable adjunct to regular OB/GYN care in many cases.
There are credible studies regarding chiropractic care during pregnancy which reveal significant benefits.
