New Jersey Chiropractor Implements ACOM Health's Chiropractic Software; Billable Services Jump 20 Percent

PENNSAUKEN, NJ, September 10, 2009 -- Advanced Chiropractic and Rehab Center, P.A., a successful 22-year-old Pennsauken practice, has implemented chiropractic software for clinical notes, reporting and office management from ACOM Health, streamlining its clinical and office processes and effecting a 20 percent increase in billable services, it was announced today by Founder Dr. Neil Liebman, D.C. and Mark Firmin, senior vice president and general manager of the ACOM Health division.
A graduate of Fairleigh Dickenson University and the Iowa campus of Palmer Chiropractic College, Dr. Liebman founded the practice in 1988, building it to a staff of nine, including a second doctor, and now treating from 270 to 300 patients per week. Dr. Liebman also serves as team chiropractor for the Philadelphia 76ers NBA professional basketball team and the Cadence professional cycling squad, and is also the official chiropractor for the Pennsylvania Ballet.
Dr. Liebman’s impetus towards a high tech office environment was impelled by what he saw as an upward trend in insurance company audits and payback demands across the length and breadth of the chiropractic profession, he said, noting that the only effective defense was a system of better notes and documentation to authenticate diagnoses and justify treatments.
"When I started practice 22 years ago, insurance companies never really asked you for notes or they considered that the notes you sent in were fine," Dr. Liebman says. "Now they want to know what numbers patients rate their pain at, your objective findings, what your treatment plan is, changes in your diagnosis -- if you are not on the same page with them and if your treatment does not correlate with their findings, you risk a post-payment audit and a demand for their money back."
The doctor also found uncaptured revenue opportunities in the speed and convenience of ACOM Health’s electronic notes and documentation processes, he said, noting that the inconvenience and time-consuming nature of paper forms and files frequently led to a failure to bill otherwise fully justified charges.
