A chiropractor who defrauded Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan of hundreds of thousands of dollars by filing phony claims was sentenced to 20 months in prison Thursday by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.

Geoffrey Ramseur, a Rockledge, Fla. resident who formerly lived in Northville, also was ordered to pay $121,000 in restitution.

He was charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud after a federal investigation and pleaded guilty before Judge Denise Page Hood in November.

The fraud stemmed from false billings Ramseur filed with Blue Cross Blue Shield using information provided by employees of Troy-based Veltri Metal Products Inc. and Detroit-based Bing Steel L.L.C., a division of The Bing Group.

Bing Steel was founded by Detroit Mayor Dave Bing.

Ramseur, formerly one of Blue Cross Blue Shield’s registered care providers, would pay employees of the two companies between $100 and $200 for their Social Security number and Blue Cross Blue Shield membership information, according to court records.
